Peach! Apple! Cherry! Plum!
Dogwood! Basswood! Cedar Wood! Red Wood!
Cypress! Sequoia! Juniper! And Tupelo!

Trees short,
Trees tall,
Trees large,
Trees small,
Trees feed birds and squirrels;
Trees dance, sway, and swirl.

Trees brown,
Trees green,
Trees red,
Trees cream,
Trees mark the seasons;
Just look at their leaves,
Just look at their leaves

Oak! Maple! Linden! Elm!
Sycamore! Walnut! Hickory! Mulberry!
Douglas Fir! Magnolia! Blue Spruce! River Birch!
Peach! Apple! Cherry! Plum!
Dogwood! Basswood! Cedar Wood! Red Wood!
Cypress! Sequoia! Juniper! And Tupelo!

Trees shade,
Trees transpire
Trees slow the flow of water.
Plant trees here and there;
We need trees everywhere.

Trees lush,
Trees bare,
Trees cool and clean the air.
Plant trees here and there;
We need trees everywhere;
We need trees everywhere.

II. Let's Go Plant a Tree

Let’s go plant a tree;
Come along and work with me.
We must do it right, you see,
For the tree to survive and sway in the breeze.

So let’s go plant a tree;
Let’s go plant a tree;
Let’s go plant a tree;
It’s fun don’t you agree?

(ONE!) First you dig a whole that’s wide;
Look at the root ball and go twice that size.
(TWO!) Don’t dig too deep with your hoe;
Just below the trunk, then the tree will grow.

(THREE!) The tree needs to be upright;
put soil in the hole then pack it tight.
(FOUR!) Our tree is planted but our job isn’t done;
Water and mulching can be such fun.

(FIVE!) Fifteen gallons of water today;
Let’s check it in a week if it does not rain.
(SIX!) To keep the soil moist and cool, spread out the mulch
That’s all we must do.

Let’s go plant a tree;
Come along and work with me.
We must do it right, you see,
For the tree to survive and sway in the breeze.

So let’s go plant a tree;
Let’s go plant a tree;
Let’s go plant a tree;
It’s fun don’t you agree?

Let’s go plant a tree;
Let’s go plant a tree;
Let’s go plant a tree;
It’s fun don’t you agree?

III. Trees Are a Pretty Big Deal

Why, oh why, oh big brother of mine,
Do trees grow high?
Why, tell me why?

Well you see, Naomi,
Trees are a pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal.

They grow high…
To break up the sky…
And because they need sunlight to grow.
Really?
Yes, really.

Why, oh why, oh big brother of mine,
Do trees grow so big and round?
Why, tell me why?

Well you see, Naomi,
Trees are a pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal.

They grow big and round…
‘cause their roots deep in the ground…
pull water and food from the soil.
Really?
Yes, really.

How, oh how, oh how do you suppose,
That trees can breathe without a mouth or nose?

Well you see, Naomi,
Trees are a pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal.
A pretty big deal.

Well, their leaves…
Take in carbon dioxide…
And they exhale oxygen.
Really?
Yes, really.

Hmmm… I see, but brother, can you say,
How long a tree will last if we plant it today?

Well you see, Naomi,
Trees are a pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal.
A pretty big deal.

I’ve been told…
They grow really old…
Four hundred years or more.
Really?
Yes, really.

Trees are a pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal.

They are marvelous, magnificent, magical, and amazing!
Trees are a pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal,
A pretty big deal.

You’re pretty smart.
Really?
Yes, really.
